Perhaps the most complicated construction in a building today occurs where the façade and structural frame meet. This interface and how it is detailed can have a significant impact on performance and costs. On Thursday, November 6, 2008, The Ornamental Metal Institute of New York will present “Façade Attachments to Steel Framed Buildings,” an AISC seminar based on the newly published AISC Design Guide 22: Façade Attachments to Steel-Framed Buildings, a guide that explains façade system fundamentals and, using practical examples, highlights the performance issues that impact attachment design. The objective of the guide is to assist architects and engineers in designing economical slab edge details for steel-framed buildings that are able to meet a façade system’s particular performance requirements.

Being presented for the first time in the New York area, the seminar will be taught by the esign Guide’s author, James C. Parker, PE, Senior Principal, Simpson, Gumpertz & Heger, Inc., Los Angeles Mr. Parker is a frequent speaker at seminars and conferences, including the 2007 NASCC where this seminar was first presented. Attendees will receive a copy of the AISC Design Guide 22: Façade Attachments to Steel-Framed Buildings along with the Seminar Course Notes.
