John Hillman wins ENR’s Award of Excellence for Hybrid Composite Beam

John Hillman took home Engineering News-Record’s 2010 Award of Excellence for his design of a patented structural support called the Hybrid Composite Beam (HCB). The corrosion-resistant fiberglass box contains self-consolidating concrete, steel strands, foam and an inflatable plastic bag. HCBs are gaining interest around the globe because they allow for faster job site assembly and eliminate the need for heavy equipment, while having an anticipated life span of more than 100 years.
